Dream Kick had a determination
to break into the local club scene playing as much original music
as they could get away with, they strived not to be labeled as another
cookie cutter sing-along cover club band. They had a writing style
that was completely unique.
Back in the early '90's, recording
music was considered a privilege and not a major necessity - radio
stations were not as friendly to play local music as they are today
due to the music that was "in" at the time. Cassette tapes
was the popular music format and analog sound was "king".
After numerous tries, Dream Kick
finally received airplay for the song "Red October"
on most stations in the Moncton area and on CIHI (Fredericton's
top radio station at the time). The university station (CHSR) was
Dream Kick's best friend right from the beginning, they played pretty
much anything and let us clown around in their studio for hours
until we offended the public or had nothing more to say.
The 8mm independant video for "This
Means War" was featured in regular rotation on Canada's
music station, Much Music during the summer of 1992, that
was also the year when Dream Kick won the Battle of the
Bands which was held at Trina's.
The newest video version of "This
Means War" is currently available on Facebook.
In my personal opinion, when this
five man unit got together on a club stage or in a rehearsal room,
it was complete magic although that magic was never fully captured
in the recording studio.
